National Library Week, April 15-21, 2007
In honor of National Library Week, Debra offered to compile a list of "Who
Reads What in Vermont" based on submissions from public librarians, who were
asked to collect a list of 1 or 2 good reads from library staff, trustees, and
legislators. So take a look at
Who Reads What in Vermont.

Public Fax Machine
The Board of Trustees has decided to allow the
library's fax machine (which is also the printer) to be used by the public. The
fees will be: for sending -- $2.50 for the first page, $1.50 for each additional
page, and $ .15 per page for receiving a fax document. Since the fax machine is
on the same phone line as one of the Public Access computers, there may be a
wait of no more than ˝ hour to send a fax. The library's phone number for
receiving a fax may be obtained by calling the library at 802-333-4716 during
regular library hours.

Book Discussion
We continue to meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each
month (except December) for a lively and interesting discussion of a title
chosen by the group members. We discuss the book, the author, and other related
issues. Our next Book Discussion meeting will take place Weds. April 18 at 7
p.m. in the library to discuss "Portrait of a Marriage" by Nigel Nicolson.
Shortly after his mother's death, Nicolson found an autobiographical account,
written in the early years of her marriage, of her love affair with another
woman. He decided to publish that manuscript, along with a longer narrative by
himself, of that story and his parents' marriage. The schedule and titles
for the remainder of 2007 and into 2008 are: May 16, "Reading Lolita in Tehran"
by Azar Nafisi; June 20, "The Beet Queen" by Louise Erdrich; July 18, "Under the
Net" by Iris Murdoch; August 15, "Bel Canto" by Ann Patchett; September 19, "Pelagie"
by Antonine Maillet; October 17, "American Beauty" by Edna Ferber; November 21,
"The All-True Travels & Adventures of Lidie Newton" by Jane Smiley; January 16,
"The Portrait of a Lady" by Henry James; and February 20, "The Woman Warrior" by
Maxine Hong Kingston. We choose the next year's titles at the January meeting.
Anyone who enjoys connecting with fellow book enthusiasts is welcome to join
by contacting the library and picking up a reading copy of the book. Free, open
to all, ADA accessible. Call 802-333-4716 for more information.
