Past the magazine rack is our display of
"Dorothy Canfield Fisher" titles for the current
year award list. Each year's list features 30 titles from which a winner is
chosen by the popular vote of children in Vermont.
There
is a small table and chairs available for studying, reading, playing a game, or
working on a puzzle. A folder of paper word games/puzzles is available for
anyone looking for "something to do".
Behind the Chapter-book area is the Picturebook or younger
reader's area. Here are shelved the Picturebook Fiction and Non-Fiction, board
books, and Easy (Beginning) Readers. There is a comfortable low rocking
chair and a soft colorful rug, as well as a table and small chairs for reading
or activities.
Our weekly Preschool Storybook Times are held in this area,
on Tuesday mornings at 10:00am for 3 - 5 year-olds, throughout the school year. We
feature stories, songs, fingerplays, and fun!
In the summer we feature programs based on a summer reading
theme chosen and supported by the Department of Libraries. There are special
bins in this section for State books, and special displays which include
holiday/seasonal offerings as well as titles from the annual
"Red Clover" award list, the
picturebook version of the DCF list mentioned earlier. There is also a pyramid
display rack for new titles, and a TV and VCR for programs and for quiet
viewing of videos in the library. |
